What do you like best about birthdays?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 12, 2008:

my favourite thing about birthdays is the chance for a bunch of people to get together for the same purpose. i think it's great that all of my friends will plan a surprise party to celebrate me and to help me have a good time. i love doing the same kind of things for my friends, too. it's always fun to be together and have fun with each other. it's nice and lovely, i think.

[also, i love it that i'm dumb enough to not figure out that a surprise party is being planned for me even though one of my friends asks me why he's not invited to my birthday party at the bowling alley, another of my friends buys me a bowling ball for my birthday when i'm with him about an hour before we go near said bowling alley, another friend points out that my gift from the second-mentioned friend "matches what we're going to be doing," and i see a bunch of my other friends who said they were busy in said bowling alley as i'm walking towards it but still a couple minutes away]

great times for celebrations; just like Christmas, it gives a reason for people to get together; even if the actual occasion is rather muted, it's the chance to catch up and exchange stories; to re-connect with people that you've shared something with in the past.

it's all so easy to drift apart with everyone living to their own schedules.

I love congragations of birthday sangha as well and I like how different folk converge in the same physical space.

And you have my favourite current name on Gaia, Orange. Fab!

Warmly, Jon x
